Hi all,

I am having a problem with my network. I recently obtained a gigabit switch and added it to the network. There seems to be a problem with the router providing ip addresses to computers connected to the second switch.

Here is the network setup:

DLink ADSL modem/router connected to the gigabit switch, attatched to this are the computers with gigabit and a second 10/100 switch. There is a mix of macs/pcs on the network, the OS does not seem to make a difference

Any computer that is not attached to the switch directly connected to the router are not being given IP addresses. I tested this by plugging the router into the 10/100 switch and then all computers on that switch were given IP's but none on the gigabit switch.

Anyone got any ideas?

if its not an autosensing switch you may need to use a crossover cable.

I seemed to have fixed this by hard-resetting the router, thanks for the help guys

Yep. When network gear misbehaves, it can often be fixed by rebooting it all.
