It says you can use the airport express with a PC...

but does that mean you can use a PC notebook and an apple desktop at the same time with the same airport or one or the other like the iPod?

I assume you can use both, but I never tried it.

I was thinking of buying a PC notebook because work uses PC...

Yes, you can connect a number of different clients via wireless on an AirPort Express. The wireless networking protocols are platform-independent, so it doesn't matter what OS the clients are running, as long as their wireless hardware conforms to the standard. Right now I'm running PCs and Macs on a Linksys wireless access point-no fuss, no muss.
