after downloading a demo of timbuktu, i realize the shortcomings of my IT admin capabilities. since the manual keeps saying 'consult with your system admin or your IT administrator', and that person is, er, me, i'm wondering if anyone can point me to a good resource for getting timbuktu pro to work over the internet.

i can work it fine when both laptops are sharing the same connection (same wap). however, it won't work when i'm on a different network. i know some things likely have to be changed with regards to the ports, but i'm not sure how to do that on the wirelesss router that feeds the laptop i'm trying to control.

first of all, do both laptops absolutely have to have a router and a fixed IP? both broadband connections are dynamically assigned IP's.

secondly, do i need to physically change the linksys router to allow traffic on port 407 or is there an option where i can tunnel in via ssh and not have to deal with changing the router at the physical location? it's only one laptop i'm trying to control (my new-to-mac-mother's), but i don't want to have to travel to her house to dink around with their wireless router (they have another pc that uses it)

apologies for the numbnutted question--hopefully not too much!

i'm editing here: it looks like the only way around is to open up ports on the wireless routers, after some further research... will attempt that next!
