OK. This is bizarre. When I use my powerbook to access my desktop's music library and then play that shared music through my airport express, web browsing slows to a crawl on my powerbook. Other internet applications (iChat, Mail, Colloquy) work fine, but web access is incredibly sluggish—if the pages open at all.

If I pause iTunes, the pages load fine. No other computers on the network are affected, and all are either wired directly into the network or use 802.11g.

Any ideas?

Web access takes a lot more bandwidth than mail and chat do, so when you're using a lot of bandwidth for something else, you should notice a slow down in browsing. Since you're using the PowerBook to do the streaming (that IS what you mean, right?) it makes a lot of sense; the PB is doing the work, wherever the music is stored.

Hm. I wonder if I ought to VNC to the desktop and stream that way? This is incredibly annoying—and I don't remember it being an issue in the past.
