Up until a week ago I've been connecting my G4 Powerbook to the internet using an airport express and a cable modem. I've had no problems with this setup for 5 months or so.

Now I cannot connect to the internet. The AE light is green and acting normal. I am able to access the net with a wired connection directly from the cable modem. My network (Tiger OS) diagnostics with airport selected are as follows:

Airport - Green
Airport Settings - Green
Network Settings - Green
ISP - Green
Internet - Red (Failed)
Server - Red (Failed)

The diagnostic tests have ben fruitless. My airport settinigs show a valid IP address and it seems to think its working.

I've tested my Mac on other wireless networks and have been able to sucessfully access the net. Thinking my router must be bad, I purchased a new airport express, but am still having the same problem. I've also installed all my software updates. I'm baffled. Anybody got any other ideas??

thanks in advance,
Fred

Two Ideas:

The cable connecting the cable modem to the base station is bad.

When I have similar symptoms, I power-off everything. Then turn-on the modem and let it initialize, then the base station and finally any connected Mac. It works every time...

I just realized that you wrote "Airport Express." That changes things a bit... My previous suggestion may not have the desired effect with an Airport Express. It may be necessary to perform a hard reset, connect to the AE via Ethernet and reconfigure it.

In the past my AE has also been wobbly performance-wise, and I have found it easiest to do the above steps to get it working again.
