Last night everything was fine. Now I can't even connect plugging straight into the router. (all other systems work fine....internet is fine....has to be between my powerbook and the router)
Tried the usual unplugging of the devices (which usually works...why? who knows)
Tried network diagnostics with the mac....
I don't get it...nothing changed from last night to today!
How does this happen and how can it be fixed?
Thank you anybody that might be able to help.
I get that on occasion with my Linksys wireless router (BEFW11S4 v2 I think) too. Besides using WEP to lend my network some sort of protection, I also limit the number of DHCP users to the number if IP address I expect on my network. For example, I have a Mac Mini, an iBook (wireless) and a Windows laptop all connected to the router using DHCP. I limit the number of DHCP clients to four (the router counts as one of them apparently) so that when I have everybody online, there are no more IP addresses left to issue.
Points to try:
(1) If you use DHCP on the router, check the DHCP configuration and the DHCP clients table. If you are limited in DHCP clients and the table is full, try clearing the table and reconnecting.
(2) Renew the IP address on the Mac via the System Preferences/Network screen, in the TCP/IP section.
(3) Reset the router by unplugging it for a few seconds. I think a momentary push of the reset button does the same, but I can't recall if you get a hard (back to defaults) reset if you hold it longer than xxx seconds or what...I'm wary of reset buttons. Power cycles don't wipe out the configs.
That's what comes to mind for now...
