This has really got me frustrated. I own a hotel and am working to get it set up with a wireless internet connection. I've got a qwest dsl modem going into a D-Link router, and then today added another D-Link access point (actually, the computer tech added the new access point). I needed this additional access point because there were too many dead spots in the hotel with only one D-link.

The new D-link seems to be working perfectly, for PC users that is. People using a PC laptop can connect to the wireless network and browse the internet at fast speeds. However with my G4 1.33gh Powerbook with Airport Extreme is having problems. I get a very strong airport signal, but internet browsing is crawling along. Some pages work for minutes to load, and some won't load at all.

The settings for the wireless connection is the same on my mac as they are on the PC. Is there something else I need to change?

Thanks for any help,

lw

Why does the subject refer to a "Netgear Wireless Router" but the body refer to a d-link?

In any case, I've had a Netgear wireless router in my home. When I got my iMac, I had great reception but very slow web page loads. Turns out that DNS information was not getting transferred to the Mac. I had to manually plug in the DNS server names into the TCP/IP tab in the Networking Preferences.

However, this does not solve your problem since you cannot tell your hotel clients to update your their DNS servers.

Have you considered switching out the d-links with an Airport Extreme + Airport Express. I have used this combo in our office and it worked for both our PC and Mac users.

Eventually, we got tired of the dead spaces and replaced all the consumer wifi equipment with a Cisco Aironet 1130AG for about $500. Much better coverage and absolutely no complaints from anybody since.

Because I'm an idiot. At my Real Estate office I'd just set up a wireless network using a netgear router. I tried to fix the title but for some reason it won't work.

I'll try the DNS issue and see if that helps.

Thanks,

lw
