Sort of a general networking question... The local coffee shop I hang out at has decided that it's time to catch up to the year 2002 and set up wifi access for their customers. They are wiling to do this only if it costs them practically nothing and won't put their existing network at risk.
Here's what I have to work with:
1 cable modem
1 Linksys 1-port wired router
1 generic 8-port ethernet hub/switch
1 Netgear 4-port wireless router
5 or so Windows PCs
What I envision:
Modem > wired router > hub > PCs AND wireless router
So that all the store's PCs are connected to the wired router through the hub, and all guest PCs are connected to the wireless router which is also connected to the hub.
I *think* that I want the wireless router to create a separate subnet, so that wireless clients can't see the wired network at all (no file sharing or printing) but can connect to the internet.
Is this the basic set up I want to create? What settings to I need to punch into the two routers to accomplish this? Will this be reasonably secure?
I only have experience setting up networks so that everything works, not with preventing things from working! LOL
Thanks
