Hi, I was looking for a spare airport 1 card and heard that older basestations have an internal one (makes sense, why not build it up out of available parts). So I bought 2 secondhand basestations, I just recieved the first one and opened it up, but inside is a Lucent wavelan card with a bulky antenna attached to it, the PCMCIA kind you see on PC-notebooks.

what if I take this card apart? will it be an airportcard inside th PCMCIA-card after all but with a built-on antenna, or is this really just something different?

I should note that this PCMCIAcrad was instantly accepted by my powermacG4 and works, but because of the built-on antenna it wont fit into an ibook

The original AirPort card was basically the same card as the Lucent Wavelan/Orinoco Gold card. But... It was NOT identical. If you don't mind the fact that "taking the card apart" could wind you up with a broken card (if it even worked when you got it), then go for it!

Just remember it's not exactly the same card, so you may have some interesting "issues" in using it.

Good luck.
