I am running Tiger on my intel imac, and have installed fedora core 5 dual booting on my ibook G4. The problem with Linux so far is the lack of airport extreme support. I think there are hacks out there , but so far they are beyond my capabilities. I am trying to plug in my ibook to the imac via my ethernet, but can't get it to work. I have turned on Personal web sharing. Do I select "Share my connection from built in ethernet" with "To computers using built-in ethernet"? Once in Fedora do I select DHCP or static with my internal airport IP addresses. I don't expect alot of assistance on the Linux side, but if I can get a good understanding of the proper set up on the mac side, I can hopefully play around with it on the linux side...

You have stated the correct choices as far as I can tell:
Share my connection from built in ethernet
Share to computers using built-in ethernet
Fedora set to DHCP

The great thing about networks is that they are based on standards. That way, it doesn't matter WHAT platform you're using, you can connect.

I have tried to connect via built-in ethernet but have had some trouble. Under Network I now see Airport (green light connected to the internet), Bulit-in Ethernet (yellow light says it is active, has a self-assigned IP and may not be able to connect to the internet), and a new Ethernet Adaptor (vi2). That is new. (Red light) It says it doesn't have an IP and can't connect to the internet.

I am connecting my ibook via ethernet to my imac, but the imac connects to the internet via Airport. Do I need to do something different for this configuration to work?

Lots of lookers but no ideas? Ignore the type of linux as both Fedora Core and Kubuntu seems to see the network cable and are given an IP address. I think that the internet signal fails once it reaches the iMac though. Is there a way to connect the two computers via network cable so my laptop can access the internet but have my internet connection be via Airport on my imac?
Sorry about the bump...

One last attempt. Can I connect my ibook via ethernet cable to my imac and have my imac connected to the internet by airport so both computers are online? I am trying to get my ibook to run different linux distros but airport support is poor. So I thought if I could connect it via ethernet then I could get online with my ibook. I know that I could just plug into my cable modem but it is not anywhere near my office as my airport base station and cable modem are behind my stereo cabinet.
