The Ibook G4 is refusing to connect to the internet and in the Network preference panel I'm getting the dreaded "Self-assigned IP address, may not be able to connect to the internet". This is happening regardless of the Airport / Built in ethernet choice. Both methods give the same message and the Router address is blank !
To make it more confusing, this Ibook was connected earlier today and, the 2 other machines, one Powermac G5 connected via built in ethernet and one Powerbook G4 connected via Airport with Extreme base, all on the same ADSL modem are working flawlessly.
Just the Ibook is having this problem. I have already tried many things, switching ports and cables, restarting the computer, trashing some Airport preferences within my Library, etc to no avail.
the self assign IP is 169.254.52.151 and the router address is blank.
I have no idea what else I could try.
If you have any thoughts, please, let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Is the AirPort card set to use DHCP? If so, just use the "renew DHCP lease" button on the page with the card's IP address and see what happens then. Sometimes AirPort (and other wireless) cards get "confused..."

Done that many times, everything configured for DHCP and hiting the renew DHCP lease, does not change a thing.
Thank you for trying !

Is the antenna fully plugged in? Are you getting ANY indication in the little AirPort icon at the top of your screen? You might even want to reset (power cycle) your router; I've seen that happen here, where the wired computers all work fine but my wife's G4 iBook just won't see anything. Rebooting the router resets the DHCP service and bingo-she connects!

keep in mind that this situation was hapening even with using the Ethernet cable diectly connected to the ADSL modem, so it was not related to a wireless problem.
I say 'was', because everything is working fine this morning, just like nothing had happened !
I also heard this morning that Cable & Wireless my ISP, are doing some work on the servers.
It's probably the reason for the disruption.
Thank you all, anyway.
