I have been looking for a hard drive enclosure that can act as a file server so I can add storage capacity to my network since me and my girlfriend both has laptop. The problem is that she has a pc and I have a Mac.

So I need one that would work with both, so I have been doing some research and this is all I can find

The Argosy HD363N...
http://www.argosy.nl/product/hd363n.htm

Every other one I saw the Mac could only access it via ftp or http or was unable to access it at all.
What I would like to do is be able to mount the share drive on the Mac’s desktop.

Any suggestion?

I'm using one from CoolMax, their model CN-550. It has both ethernet AND USB (B) connectors so you can attach it to your network or (faster) connect it via USB as an external drive. It works with Macs AND Windows with no problem at all. It's available at Newegg for $70US.

Quite frequently, they don't bother to mention Mac compatibility. But if it's got an ethernet interface, it's probably gonna work.

Question? how did you access the files?
you mount the volume on the desk top? and if you do... do you have to everytime?
or is there another way...
I want to be able to have my music on it and link it to itunes...

Thanks
Carlos

I don't access the files from a Mac very much, but it shows up as a server on the network. Once the connection is made (GO>Connect to server), and the password provided (it's optional to password the folders on the network drive), it persists so it's easy to use. It shows up in "My Network Places" on my PC desktop with similar persistence.

As it's a drive on the network, it works like a server. My iTunes music is on it, and (except for the time the drive takes to spin up when it hasn't been accessed for a while) it is quick and easy.
