Hello!
Just got a new MacBook Pro 2,0 and am busy setting it up for mobile access to our corporate network.
I´m using Cisco VPN Client 4.9.00 (0050).
When I am using my wireless router at home (over a DSL line) everything works fine, but when I am connected over a SonyEricsson K608 UMTS/3G phone, the client does not seem to be able to connect:
Error log is as follows:

Has anybody heard of something like that?
I tried the same on a G4 iBook with the same configuration, and everything works fine there.
Bye, Frido.

I'm having the same problem with my Macbook and a Treo 650, over Sprint wireless. The same setup worked fine with my iBook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, then it seems there is a problem with intel-based macs and the Cisco Client...
Bye, Frido.

I am experiencing the same problem with the Cicso VPN client (4.9.00 (0500) on OS X 10.4.7. The VPN client works fine over Airport, but failes with the Error 51 over mobile boradband either USB or bluetooth to the Nokia N70. My intnet connection through the N70 is fine - I can browse web pages, check email, but I can't get the VPN client to work. I've tried the various unload/load and restart the VPN client options posted earlier for this problem and none of them work. I've restarted OS X a number of times - to no avail. If I boot the Intel Mac into Windows and use the same Nokia N70 via USB to the Windows OS, I can use the PC version of the VPN client without any trouble to connect back to the VPN server.

I'm having the exact same problem with a V640 card from Verizon in a 17" MacBook Pro. I have no issues with using the Cisco VPN client via AirPort or Ethernet. Cisco seems to have broken something.... Big surprise. Any ideas?

It seems that it is indeed the Cisco Client. I tried the VPN Tracker demo and it worked just fine, but I´d hate to spend $99 just to connect to the company network.
I´m still hoping that a new version from Cisco will fix this...
Bye, Frido.

According to my Cisco TAC rep, this is a known bug.
CSCsd51126
VPN Client connections fail over PPP on the Intel platform with a "mismatch length" error in the vpnclient log. PPC platforms still work fine.
The Release Notes for the 4.9 client can be seen here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/...0806ecf3b.html
There is no ETA for a resolution. Anyone else out there know someone at Cisco we can bug to get this pushed up on the priority list? They've marked it a Severity 3, which means it probably won't be fixed in my lifetime.
Hey Apple...put some pressure on them, you guys run a Cisco network. This affects the use of Bluetooth and ExpressCard modems... This will definately curb my purchasing of MB and MBP's.

Hey guys, I had this same problem today and googled for an answer, finding this thread...
I found a solution. I'm running WinXp through Parallels 3.0 (latest build) and Windows Cisco VPN client 4.8.01.0300. It works perfectly. i.e. I can RD through the regular Windows client to servers, etc.

I tried the newer Version of the Cisco VPN Client (4.9.01.0030), which now officially supports PPP connections on Intel Macs. I got it working once, but it seems you have to disable all other interfaces apart from the PPP one, I have yet to reproduce my success, will report further if I am able to...
Using Parallels is unfortunately not an option if you want to connect with Mac Software (e.g. Apple Remote Desktop)

You're right Frido. I use WinXP remote desktop from within the virtual machine. I would imaging there would be some way of extending the VPN connection from the VM back out to OS X, perhaps by playing with Parallels configuration.

Cisco's VPN client is notorious for its problems. I never got it to work right. And that's why VPN tracker is so popular (and equinux can afford to charge $99 for it) … perhaps your company can add something to the $99.
