I am working on a G4 15" for a friend. Uses Mac X OS.

Uses dial up internet service w/internal Apple 56K V.90 modem.

In the past week or so, she reports "no dial tone" error every time she tries to dial up her ISP.

I hooked her computer up to my home phone jack, and I also get "no dial tone" error message. The jack is working properly, so I know it is a computer issue.

Does this sound like a bad modem, or is this a settings issue?

Any advice to investigate would be GREATLY appreciated. I know very little about using Macs, so I need help with this one.

This is not a PowerMac-related question. Sounds like you are either troubleshooting an iMac G4 (post should go in our iMac Forum), or a PowerBook G4 (post should go in our PowerBook Forum).

What happened a week or so ago? What changed around the time when she stopped being able to dial out? ie - was new RAM installed, an OS update, application software installed or updated? Have you tried a different phone cord?
