Is there a way to 'borrow' hi speed internet from another computer?

I was wondering, is there a USB device that can allow wifi users to 'Share' the internet connection without being detected as being 'connected'? I can't connect my laptop at work and was wondering if I could just hook up some usb wifi thing onto an already connected computer so the IT people don't see my MAC address or any thing that shows that I'm connected. I just can't stand updating my site through my GPRS connection.. way too slow..
Thanks,
Mike

You can do this by connecting your laptop to your computer connected to your company's network, and using NAT. Your laptop would need to be connected over Ethernet, unless you had something you could use that would broadcast a wireless signal. If you had a wireless router, you would have to configure it to use the private IP addressed assigned by your computer connected to the network as the gateway address.
You'll need to read up on NAT (network address translation), and creating firewall rules (in OS X, this is ipfw) to handle the NAT.

And be advised that YOU will be responsible to your company when (not if) something sneaks in through your unprotected connection. You've been warned.

Bleh forget it. It's annoying that the 'company' has this rule. I only use the net for work purposes, and this is really slowing me down. They won't even let me connect to their printers! AND they won't let me BUY my own stinking printer to use! I'm just going to get me a 3g phone and tether. Maybe put my printer in the trunk of my car! haha I'm surprised IT will let me drive my own car to work!

How about you not play on your Mac and not update your personal site during work hours and actually work instead?
