Question..

My Mother has DSL through verizon, and she has a wireless router. When I was doing the initial setup for my iMac.. it recognized the wireless connection and I clicked on it... but it always came back with a FAILED, could not connect to network..

Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong? I am totally new to the Mac, and I called apple, but they said it was third party and would not offer any help, other then.. The connection might be out of range.

Any suggestions?

You're best bet is to call Verizon DSL customer support. I've set up 2 Verizon wireless DSL routers for friends (1 iBook, 1 PB). It takes a little longer to configure it for wifi than ethernet because of the encryption. Verizon can walk you through the router configuration if you run into problems. Also, you may want to download FireFox just in case. ISTR running into a problem with Safari on some of those internal router config pages.

BTW - the Verizon wireless router also has 4 ethernet ports on the back. So if you want to get online immediately (for example - to download FireFox) you can use an ethernet patch cable. Your iMac should automatically sense the network and connect within a few seconds.

You mean take time away from playing with the new mac. Actually I had plans on calling them on my next day off. I think I got it to work tonight.. but it's back to not working... Wish my mother wold throw her PC away and get a mac.. would be easier..

I had to put the ethernet cable in today, because I wanted online real bad, so I could get all the software updates while I was at work and to test everything out. I'll be calling them on Thursday, hopefully they'll give me some help..

Thanks.
