Hi,
Ok I looked around the forums but I didn't find anything that related to my problem, so posting a new topic.
I have a ThinkPad T43 running WinXP SP2 with all the latest updates. To this, I have a HP PSC 1410 connected via USB. I need help with using this printer over a wireless network (which I have set-up with a D-Link D-524 router) using my MacBook.
Ok, what I have done is, I have installed Networked Printing for Unix on the TP and enabled printer sharing. The printer is correctly installed and is printing via the TP.
Enabled printer sharing on the MacBook, it detects the printer, the problem is, I can't find a suitable driver for this model.
I downloaded the HPIJS driver, but that doesn't have support for the 1400 series. I downloaded the PPD file for the 1400 series, but I don't know how to use this as a driver, since all the drivers installed by HPIJS are in .gz format.
So I basically need help with installing the correct drivers for the printer, or some way to use this PPD file, or somehow finding the correct drivers online. When I connect the PSC via USB to the Mac it prints fine. However, when choosing the driver for Wireless Printing, I don't get the option of installing the driver via the CD (ala WinXP).
Hope I haven't confused anyone.
Thanks,
P.S. I know that the MacBook is setup properly for Wireless Printing, since it printed to an HP Deskjet 810C perfectly. Also, the Generic PostScript Drivers don't work.

There are frequently problems with printing to networked USB printers-the USB drivers just don't do the job. Is it possible for you to connect the PSC 1410 to the ThinkPad via a parallel cable? That should work fine with HP's drivers (based on experience with different HP printers, such as the DJ 830C...).

Nope the 1410 doesn't have a Parallel Port Interface at all. Last night, when I sent the print command, it would be received by the printer, it would make all the usual noises like just before it's supposed to take in the paper, but here's the funny part, it doesn't take in any paper! The light keeps blinking that there's a print job in progress, it doesn't blink or give errors of out of paper, it just sits there as if it's trying to process something.
From what I read online, I need the ESP Ghostscript drivers to be installed. However, there's no support for the 1410. Also, with the HPLIP driver (HP for Linux Printing), there are commands given on their website but they're Linux specific. If someone could help me with installing these drivers on a Mac, they might work. It's worth a try I guess.
Here's the link
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/step3/index.html
When I type in the command
./configure --prefix=/usr
into the Terminal Window, I get the error
No suitable C compiler found in PATH$. Check config.log for details.
Could anybody tell me how I can get these to work?
TIA
Cheers

Wait a minute. You're hosting the printre off a PC, right? What's the print queue name in your Mac's setup for this printer? I'll bet it's the default name the Mac generated, right? That probably won't work, and here's why: the PC wants to use a queue named "LPT1" (case sensitive). If you change the settings in your Mac to that, it might work. It should probably also be set to use the LPR protocol if it isn't already.
Your mention of the printer trying to print reminded me of this issue. I just recently got a new printer, which I connected to our network printserver. When I configured my wife's iBook to use it, I had to manually set the queue name or it would just "try to print" but not actually do anything.
I hope this helps. If not, then there's some other issue with the driver, but that doesn't make sense, since HP usually provides good Mac printing support.

I tried that, it doesn't seem to work. I think that is relevant when the printer is connected to the PC via a Parallel Port Interface, not for USB. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Anyone who can help me?

I'm out of ideas for getting the printer to work in your current configuration. One thing that is bound to work is a 2-to-1 USB switch. You plug each computer into the "2" side and the printer into the "1" side and switch between which computer is connected to the printer. It's worked for others, so it should work for you.
