Hi all,

I have PB 12 inch with airport card included and sometimes my receiving signals is not as strength my roomies ( we all have the same router in living room) and only me who use Mac. They have the network card adapter on their PC/laptop and gain the speed almost twice as mine. So my question would be is there any device that I can add up to boost my airport card? or is that possible to use a USB wireless card such as from linksys or Dlink whatever? thanks for any kind of help and have anice evening!.

Hi,

The metal body PBs are wi-fi challenged.

This thread gives some options and my experience with one solution:

There are a few things you can do, like altering that direction the PowerBook faces and elevating the wireless router so there are fewer obstructions between you and it (mine is on a fairly high shelf and I get much better coverage because of it).

But rjt1000 is right; the metal case on PowerBooks interacts with the wireless antennas and messes up their performance. The aluminum cases are less of a problem than the titanium ones, but it's still a problem-and there's probably a similar problem with MacBook Pros, too.
