Hello! I've tried asking some of these questions elsewhere, but when I do I am usually asked to look harder and I've tried (really) but I'm still stumped, so *deep breath* here goes.
My current setup is:
Netgear ADSL Modem/Router -> AirPort Extreme -> My computer and several others.
If I want the files I host on my computer via personal web sharing (i.e. the stuff that comes up when I visit http://127.0.0.1/ or file:///Library/WebServer/Documents/) to be accessed on the internet, what do I have to do? (I understand that my ISP has to allow hosting for this to happen).
I've tried setting up port forwarding with my Netgear router but without much success and I'm still pretty unsure as to what I have to do.
I've considered leaving an always-on "server" computer connected directly to the Netgear, but would this slow down traffic for the computers on the network? I'd also like to think about the future i.e. buying a domain name etc.

Basically the IP address of my router, as seen from the internet, is 86.144.242.48. I want this, when typed into a browser, to bring up the files hosted on a computer - either connected by AirPort to the Netgear, or directly to the Netgear if the wireless option is impractical.

Any help/tips? ( Sorry about my noobism... )

...lol great response so far. I can get it working if I connect directly to the wired router. It'd be NICE to get it working across the wireless network (hint, hint?) but I don't know how... any... thoughts?

Multiple Routers are a pain.. I got A dsl/router from verizon and then my $140 router I got before I had Verizon.
What you need to Do is check up the tree.
My Main Router uses The ip range of 10.10.1.2 - 10.10.1.15
and my Main Modem uses 10.10.2.2 - 10.10.2.5
My Computer is on 10.10.1.2 and Router is on 10.10.2.2
So What I do is type each of those ips in my address bar. Working my way up. If one doesn't work like my Router ip doesn't work I know my Router is blocking my internet. This is a good way to solve your problems of what router is blocking it.
Since most people dont change their Routers Default Ip you will most likely have 192.168.1.xx as the Ip you are getting from your router. You can get that info in Network in System Prefs. It should tell you. You can get your router ip in your router administration page somewhere. I use a Linksys and its in Status.

Also Make sure your web server is running. Find that out in Sharing in System Prefs.

If you have Verizon as your ISP I can tell you know they block port 80 which is default port for websites. Some Others Block this port to. So that may be your problem right there.

---Edit---
Saw your second post just now..

Wireless network will work but being wireless it would be slower. A wired connection would be the best to get the fastest connection. Im assuming Something in the routers security page is not allowing it.
Also Make sure your computer is static Ip from the router. So no mater how it connects it always has the same ip. As long as mac address doesn't change you shouldn't have a problem really of insant changing connection types.
My router gots same mac address as my webserver. I can plug my webserver directly into my modem and not have a problem besides changing my static ip. Since they are both same mac address the modem assumes it is the same unit.
