I use a Linksys WRT54G Wi-Fi router for my home. I have a AL Powerbook G4 1.25 which I use as my moblie platform. Normally, I used to b able to sit in my living room and use my Powerbook, albeit with only a few bars but it was satisfactory. My router is in an upstairs office ( second story ). Recently I have not been able to get reception in the living room. The only change I can think of is the 10.4.7 update and the hot muggy weather. How can I troubleshoot my diminished Airport reception? What could cause this diminished reception?

should be in the networking forum, where you'd get more suggestions...

Lots of reasons for abrupt change of wireless reception, possibly from neighbors with new 2.4 ghz cordless phones, stuff like that. Have you downloaded and run iStumbler to see how crowded your wireless neighborhood is, eg how many competing base stations are around you?

NETWORKING ISSUES GO IN THE NETWORKING FORUM, NOT THE POWERBOOK FORUM! Please pay attention when you post stuff.

Yes, I did replace my phones with the gig model. I will unplug the phones when I get home and see if it helps. I also like the idea of iStumbler. I really don't mind the limited range of the my network as long as it reaches the living room. Seems like less of a chance someone outside the house would detect a signal.

Yep, new gig phones will present problems. Some people have reported that locating the phone base on the side of the house opposite the WAP has helped somewhat. Basically it depends on what you value the most: your wireless reception or your new phones.

In other words: Can you still take the gig phone back for refund?

I am not impressed with my new phones either. Very poor performance just ouside the house.
My old 900 mgz phone seemed better. Well, they were a Costco bargain. Not!
