Ok so i just got my macbook and set it up on my wireless network using my Netgear WGR614. The problem is the connection drops pretty often for a short time. It wouldn't be that anoying except for the fact that it drops for 5-10 seconds but then doesn't automatically reconnect. So if i go up to the menubar and click on my airport thingy i can just scroll down and click on my network and its up and working again, unfortunately I have to actually DO this every time otherwise it doesn't ever decide to reconnect. I wouldn't mind this that much except that when I am trying to download a large file overnight or something it just stops after a short time and never starts up again. How can I make my macbook automatically connect to the network as soon as it comes back up? i have the password saved in my keychain and everything. Any help would be much apreciated!

More information, please. How is your Netgear box set up? How far away from it are you when you experience the drops, and what's in between you and it? What kind of security do you have set up?
We'll be happy to help you, but we need more information.
And WELCOME to the MacNN Forums!

The router is like 3ft away although I have the same problems when it is 30ft away. I have moved the router around so it isn't a problem with anything being in the way. It seems to be an entirely software related problem because my computer sees the network there always it just doesn't feel like autoconnecting to it! Even if i could make a very simple program that would simply connect to that airport network every time it lost connection that would be fine but it seems like Tiger should automatically be doing this for me and isn't for some reason

You could try reseting the router and update your wireless on your macbook

Sorry, but I wonder if this would solve your problem? Cheers.

andretan, both of those are good ideas-but only if the rest of the issues have already been addressed.
First, reset the router. Just unplug that box for several minutes (and I don't mean several seconds-time at least TWO MINUTES) and then try again.
Also note that for some reason a lot of AirPort cards don't "get the message" when the computer they're in goes to sleep, so they don't know they've just woken up-that means that you have to manually disconnect and then reconnect to go online. If that's the case, try the two solutions in andretan's link; either deleting the AirPort entry in the Keychain and reentering the passphrase, or going into the AirPort Preferences and entering the passphrase. That might just do the trick, particularly if this is the only issue you have.
