I know the differnce is b and g, but how come original Airport cards are more expensive? Shouldn't it be cheaper since they are slower?

The original airport cards were discontinued long ago. Supply and demand has driven the price up. That's all.

Chabig hit the nail on the head. The original cards are hard to find, so market forces assign them a premium price. It's sort of the market's way of telling you you might want to upgrade your computer.
And remember, the two cards are NOT interchangable! The original AirPort card has a PC card form factor, while the AirPort Express came out in a mini-PCI form factor. Absolutely no interchangablility.

IIRC, my Sawtooth will only be able to take the orignal.
