cheers

I have verzon dsl since dec last year. very reliable for about 5 months. now farily cranky. about a month ago I got very slow speeds and called and they said to reset the moded by turning off all and reboot.

fine that worked for a few days. then the same thing. after several of these episodes called verizon again. they fiddled with varous settings and decided to send me a new modem. installed that one and sent the other back

fine for about 3 weeks than major cranky ness again for a few days and now today seems fine.

there has been the ususal bad weather here in NewEngland, storms etc. but had about a month or two of those before the first set of episodes.

how can I solve this problem for good? is it the "DSL service" which verizon would be reluctant to tell jme about? a cranky modem that some how mostly fixes itself with the turn off/on? or both?

if my service just stops until I do somwthing I can't cure up my downloads overnight and expect them to work. Ive discoverd some interesting TV from australia/new zeland/ and GB

thanks

by the way: iss fiber optics afftected by "atmospherics"

cheers thanks

I had this problem after I put Tiger on my iMac. It was fixed by, of all things, buying more RAM.

thanks for your tip. I find this very facinating. how could this be? right now things are very hunky- dory for my set up.

I can move 512 from anotther g4 dual I have and put it in this one and take the 256 and put it in that one.

but how could and extra 256 help me in 10.3.8??

any further ideas here?

cheers

Networking issues (including modems) go in the Networking forum, NOT Peripherals.
