My daughter just got a new Dell laptop for college (I know, I know; daughter No. 2 wants a Mac when she leaves in two years!). We have a desktop Mac, a desktop PC and a Mac laptop; both desktops are hard-wired into a router, to which is also connected an Airport Extreme. The Mac desktop and laptop both use an Epson printer, which is connected to the AEBS.

Shouldn't the Dell, which has no trouble getting online using the wireless network, be able to see and use the printer as well? So far, nothing. I haven't investigated too much, b/c I haven't had time. But it seems to me that this should work right out of the box. From doing a little research, I wonder if drivers might be a problem. I'll look into that later.

In the meantime -- should this work easily?

You'll probably need the Windows driver for the Epson printer to load in the Dell. Also, that USB-connected printer may give you some problems sharing over wireless-that's something a lot of people have experienced. It SHOULD work easily, but it's dependent on the quality of the drivers from the printer manufacturer. Sorry I didn't have a quick "do this" solution for you.

Thanks for the help. I installed the drivers and now the Windows laptop acknowledges there's one there. So that was certainly a help. There are some settings that need to be changed, however, to allow the computer to actually print. I'm going to do a little research, but think I'll let my husband handle that, as I really know very little about windows. (He keeps telling me that the reason my laptop and desktop work so well in being able to see each other is b/c it's "an apple network." Nonsense, I said. I just figured out the settings.)

And after this, I am even more pleased with my decision 16 years ago to go Mac...
