Ok so I am totally new at this. I just purchased a macbook and an airport extreme base station. I have not received either one yet, but here is what is bothering me. How do I connect the airport extreme to my cable modem. I have a VAIO as my desktop that is already connected to the modem. Are all of these going to work together? I need a connector right? (RJ45?) Does this thing just plug into the modem and then into the aiport leaving the VAIO attached and still able to operate or am I mistaken because the only free port I see in the back of the modem is a USB. HELP ME I AM CLUELESS!!!!!!

First off YES IT WILL ALL WORK TOGETHER. Really. The AirPort Express is a wireless router, so it will allow you to share the single connection through the cable modem among a number of computers, including one wired computer.
Now, what you'll need to do to set things up is first turn off the cable modem. Then use a Cat5 (ethernet) patch cable to connect the ethernet port on the modem to the WAN port on the Extreme (that's the one with the circular icon). Now connect the VAIO to the LAN port on the Extreme (again using an ethernet patch cable-this port has the little arrow icon). To set up the Extreme, you'll want to take the cable out of the VAIO and plug it into your MacBook, and then run the AirPort Setup Assistant, which will guide you through the configuration process. Once you have all this done, turn the cable modem back on and let it finish its start up cycle. It should recognize and connect with the Extreme with no problems.
You will also be able to use the VAIO wirelessly if it has its own wireless card.

Does my VAIO have to have an AirPort card in it?

first of all, starting a new thread with the same question isn't cool. Keep your questions related to this topic in this thread.
As to whether you will need a wireless card in your Vaio desktop, no, you will not. All you will need to do (as ghporter said) is plug your ethernet cable into the ethernet port on your Vaio, and the other end of it into one of the LAN ports on your Airport Extreme.
