I have a question about a VPN, we have VPN service at my work so we can connect to the office shares, remote desktop the whole nine.

Up till a few weeks ago we had a Firebox firewall installed, we got it setup over the years and was working pretty good and setup pretty liberally. we are a professional organization and the policies were all setup for trojans, obvious adult stuff as well.

We recently switched to a IPCop solution and the policies are the tightest Ive ever seen, even CNN political section is locked out. When you try to visit a site you get the standard "You have been protected/reported/spanked" message.

So, being frustrated and somewhat able to muck around in OS X, I setup a L2TP over IPSec VPN at my home, that offers DNS and sharing, etc.

When I connect from work to my home VPN the whole internet is open again and no more "Blocked" messages. Also nice is the ability to use printers, shares, etc. at home.

My question is what can the IT department here at work see me doing? Can they see the sites? My passwords? Banking info? (yes, even my bank is blocked for some reason)

Really, in time they will fix all the small sites but until then there are some I NEED to get to and they have been dragging their feet.

I can always Apple remote desktop to my home machine and surf from there but its a hassle and kinds slow.

Thanks!

All they see is encrypted traffic.

And, yes, they can still fire you for that.
