Is there any way my Mac can connect to a wireless network on channel 13? You are supposed to only use 1-11 but hacked linksys routers can go up to 12 and 13. But can Apple wireless devices see such a network?

After a little research, I noticed that people with "international" airport cards seem to be able to see channel 13 but people with "usa" cards can not. Is this different hardware or is there some hack type deal I can do to change mine? If you go in System profiler, and go to networking, then airport card, it will tell you you're "Wireless Card Locale"

Per FCC regulations, wireless networks in the U.S are limited to channels 1-11. That means that U.S. marketed wireless devices are set up in their firmware to only have access to those channels and not the higher ones.

Basically using channels 12-14 is a violation of a regulatory law, sets you up as a source of radio interference for licensed users of those frequencies, and basically makes you a scofflaw. Yes, I have strong opinions about this, and I think you're doing a bad thing by using those channels.

Why on earth would you need to use those particular channels anyway?

I've come across many wireless networks that use 13. I don't know if they are foreign bought routers that got brought to the US or what. But I want to have the flexibility to connect to anything. Plus in really busy airspace, 13 can be the only open space if you want to avoid some interference.
