How do I set this damn thing up for uses with iChat? I don't understand the terminology.
It's a TRENDnet TEW-432BRP. Here is a screengrab of my setting's page:
I also have this page:
And there is also this page:

Hmmm, I think you should do this on the Special AP page.
iChat uses TCP ports 4099,5190,5193
and UDP ports 4099,5190,5193
Do you need any more help?

Thanks, but which is the incoming and which is the trigger?
I'm a little confused with the terminology compared to this page.
And on my Netgear I was told to use my "port forwarding" page not my "port triggering" page for some reason. On this one there is no specific "port forwarding" page.
P.S. I got this one because my Netgear was locking up about 3 times a week when I used the wireless.
P.P.S. Too bad most companies don't just have an iChat setting. I'm not interested in "MSN Gaming Zone" or whatever. I swear, I was almost tempted to buy an Airport just to avoid dealing with these settings.

Ok, ok, ignore the port triggering. You should be able to use Port Forwarding for the Trendnet TEW-432BRP to set up your ports for iChat. That page is specific to your router and is written to forward ports for iChat. Hope it works
(As a last resort: Still got your Netgear? If it's fine when off wireless, you could use it as the modem, and plug it into your new router.)

OK sweet. Thanks, I'll try that on the weekend.
Do I need to do the same thing with the 16xxx ports? Apple talks about them on their iChat ports page. I note that the page you linked and the ports you posted didn't include the 16xxx ports.
This is what Apple says:
" iChat AV uses a range of ports for different purposes. When conferencing, ports 16384 to 16403 are used to send, receive, and optimize AV streams."

Well when following the page I linked you to, just add some more rules for the ports Apple specifies and hope that it all works

I have spent years trying to get iChat to work with my router - iChat seems to prefer one make to another. I have a v cheap Dynalink now which worked straight out of box - no config necessary. But the other trick is - your ISP may be blocking the port. Try going to Preferences>Accounts>server settings then change port from 5190 to 5191....... this worked for me when iChating on another isp from my usual one.
