I recently bought a print server for my home network so i can share my relatively new Epson C86 with my current computers and possibly a future Mac/PC. I can print from my WinXP machines.... but for some f'ed-up reason, it won't let me send print jobs from my Mac.
Here's my COMPLETE network setup:
*a PM 6100 with OS 9.1
*a WinXP peecee
*a WinXP laptop
*a NetGear wireless 4-port router
*a -WIRED- parallel, 1-port print server ---(FMI/CompUSA brand)---
*an Epson Stylus C86 printer
Here's what i tried:
*installed the Mac OS 9.1 version of the C86 drivers
*accessing the print server from my networked Mac, via iCab v3.0 and MSiE v5.17
*made sure all sharing privilages are correctly set on the peecee side of the network
*tried Dave 5.x
*tried that 'LPT1' thing using MacOS 9.1's desktop printing tool thing to make a desktop printer icon
All methods failed.
So i go back to the cardboard box that came with the print server. It said that it (the print server) supports AppleTalk. So, on my mac, i go to the Chooser to see if i can select an AppleTalk zone.... nadda....
TCP/IP just doesn't seem to work either for my Mac... even though TCP/IP is what i'm using for my PeeCees to connect to the print server and send print jobs from.
Am i missing something? Or should i just get a better print server? If there's a print server that's out there and is -GUARANTEED- to work with a combination of WindowsXP and MacOS 9.1, then please share with me your suggestions!
