Hello,

I got a new Mini set up as an always on media player and everything works great except for one thing - wireless is getting disconnected after inactivity. It never drops during usage, so I don't think it's connection problem. However, after every night, I find my wireless need to be reconnected and it's extremelly irritating.

I searched low and high but I can't find an option for this. My guess it's some sort of power saving feature, but I just want it gone.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Alex

go into you network prefs and into your wirless connection. then go to the PPP tab and PPP options. you will find the option in there.

And ask questions about your network hardware (including your AirPort card) in the Networking forum...

I'm sorry for being thick here... but I can't find anything for this...

I go in:

1. applications
2. system preferences
3. network
4. configuring AirPort
5. I can see "PPPoE" but there's nothing i can use there... i believe PPPoE is for connections like DSL where i need username and password...

And I looking in the right place?

I am having similar problems. My airport extreme base station will shut down for some reason (usually over night) and I am out of my WPA network.

Kick, are you referring to "Disconnect from network when I log out" in the Airport Options button?

Are any of you "new to broadband?" I remember that OS X has a timer that will disconnect a dial-up connection after inactivity, and in a lot of ways PPPoE is considered "dial-up" for how it's managed. I just can't remember where that setting is.

If you have a base station or router, you should set IT up to handle PPPoE for this reason if no other-you can simply set up your computer to connect to a LAN and let the other hardware deal with PPPoE and such.

Actually my is starting to shape up to be a faulty Ethernet card or Extreme card.

My AE is now dropping connections even when the network is busy. I spent an hour on the phone with my cable company today. I wired it up and the wireless network problem disappeared.

I will take my G5 to have it checked out next month.

Anybody report similar problems? AE disconnecting for no good reason? Probably should start a new thread on this.
