I recently signed up to take an eclass and during the signup I received the following error:

Permission Error:

This error is caused by Firewall.
Please review this page for more information:
Open Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF)
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Besides the excellent English, I was confused because I'm not aware we have a firewall, and if we do, it hasn't ever stopped me from doing something before. (Boy, don't I sound like a noob.)

Someone else in the office also ran into the same problem (10.4.x with Firefox then Safari.) They jumped on the office PC and was able to register right away. I figured maybe the site wasn't cross-compatable, but support responded:

The Mac computer you are using my have an integrated firewall or antivirus that is not allowing you to add yourself to the class. Please allow it to access the following sites: ....
I see that the Mac has a personal firewall, but could that actually be the problem? If so, how do I access the list of sites that I can access? There's no anti-virus on this computer.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

The firewall in OSX is off by default; check the Sharing pane of System Prefs to make sure it wasn't turned on, I suppose.

Does that confirm they don't know what they're talking about, or something else entirely?
