i made the stupid mistake of buying another one of these 'things' yesterday , 18 months after i last got one , assuming they would have moved on - oh dear..

sadly , it just doesn't work

at all - the manual may as well be written in klingon and the one status light is simplicity taken TOO far , after 4 hours of fiddling all I managed was having to restart the damn thing twice and somehow ended up with my first kernel panic in 3 years !!!

the only apple product i've ever bought in over 15 years that I would call TOTAL AND UTTER 100% CRAP

what other options for extending airport extreme's range and streaming music are there ?

Clearly you're doing something wrong, as my AE has been flawless in any number of network setups.

I've had an AEx for about a year now, and although I was quite pleased with it at first, it has started to become unstable: it crashes and takes out the whole network seemingly at random.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Try this page (perhaps the FAQ's or setup guides):

thanks guys , i found a way round my predicament

i put a hole in a wall , fed the wires through , moved the base station upstairs and now my signal's excellent

so much for the hi-tech approach !!!

I'll bet putting the hole in the wall felt good too!

My brother-in-law had a problem where the room he wanted his network stuff in was the only "bedroom" without a cable drop. No sweat: he got his buddy, a handyman, to put a utility box in the wall this room shared with another bedroom that did have one, and a connecting one in the other side of the wall. After that, it was simple to run a cable from the coax drop to the new box and through to the room he wanted it in.
