We've got a Buffalo LinkStation 400 GB HD-HG400LAN connected to a Linksys Router. The Mac could see this fine before the upgrade to 10.4.8. Now when we try to go to the network (where we used to see a shared drive on a windows machine also on the local netwrok and the LinkStation) nothing is there. [The Mac is connected to the router via a wireless access point. We can get out through the router to the Internet just fine. We're only having problems accessing file shares on the 192.168.1.1 network.]

We've checked the firewall settings. Nothing seems to be turned on.

We don't remember doing anything on the Mac to see the LinkStation before -- all the setup was done through the web interface (problems using the Windows setup are outside the scope here, I think).

Anything special that needs to be done in 10.4.8 to turn on access to network shares *from* the machine? [The way we read the options in System Preferences > Sharing those all seem to be controlling access *to* the Mac.]

Thanks much!

Sorry for taking up the space here. Doing additional searches confirmed that others have seen this problem and that a workaround is:

Use the Go menu in Finder and "Connect to Server" by IP address.

[Now, since I'm the Windows/UNIX person helping out my Mac husband, I'll admit that it took me 20 minutes or so to find Finder's Go menu. Any one else in the same boat should look for the menu at the top left of the screen - perhaps far away from the Finder window itself.]
