I redid my PC setup, and ever since then when I try to login into my PC from my Mac I get an error saying that the alias cannot be found.

Under Finder > Network > Workgroup Name it shows my PC's name, and when I select Connect... it prompts me for a user name and password, it then comes back saying the alias cannot be found and that I can either Delete, Fix, or Cancel. Well deleting comes back with a permissions error, fixing just lets me choose some local file which makes no sense...so that leaves cancel. If I use the "Connect To Server" under Finder>Go I type in smb://192.168.55.19 and I'm prompted with a user name and password, and it returns it as being invalid.

My network was working fine before. I turned off all the firewall stuff in WinXP, and I can log into my Mac from my PC just fine.

I think I've made some headroom. I changed to a different Windows Workgroup and then renamed my PC. After some reboots of both, the Mac now shows the new PC name under the new Workgroup name. However I still get the same error. So I'm thinking that when I click on the PC's name in the Network field, that icon is really just an a shortcut or alias of sorts. When I'm prompted for the password and the connection gets refused, OSX can't get to the alias link and thus it errors out thinking the alias is bad. Just to test the idea, I put a file on the desktop and created an alias. I then deleted the file and clicking on the alias gave me the exact same error.

So now I need to find out why the Mac is getting refused the connection. I tried connecting to my laptop and it did the same thing. It can see the laptops name, but cannot connect to it.
