So far, so good.

I have set up a home network. My mini is connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable. My PC & ibook are connected via wireless. All three have internet access! Firewall & WEP set up ok.

I can see the PC's files from both macs no problem. Wow. I am pleased with myself.

Now all I have to do is allow the ibook to view an external drive which is connected to my mini.

Maybe in all the excitement I can't do what surely must be easy! But, hell, I'm smb/afp/drop box/airport/appletalk confused!!

Can someone please explain the obvious to me. I can't see the wood for the trees...

The only way other computers will be able to see the mini's external drive is if you're authenticating to the mini with a full-Admin account. If you need restricted user access, then you'll need to upgrade your Mini's OS to OS X Server or see if there is some 3rd party software that might facilitate it.

If you need restricted user access then download SharePoints and do some more advanced configuration. Don't waste money on OS X Server.
