I have an ibook connected to the internet with its airport card. I also have a pc that I want to connect to the internet by physically connecting it to the ibooks ethernet card with a net cable and bridge the airport connection.. now, is this just dream thinking? or does it really work?

It works but it's a pain. Spend $40 and get a router-it's easier, doesn't require your iBook to be turned on for the PC to surf, and it makes it easier to do a lot of other things too.
You can get a router (not "wireless" router-you didn't say anything about that) for even less than $40-I got one that cost less than $9 after rebates one time.
Really, Internet Connection Sharing works, but it's a poor second choice to a stand-alone router.

ghporter, that won't solve gkl's problem. He already has some sort of wireless access point. He needs to get a desktop that is far away from the nearest wired port online.
gkl: Yes, it can be done. But I'd buy a $0-10 USB wifi dongle for the PC.

Okay, I misread the first post (gotta stop peeking in and really read stuff I guess). If you need a connection for the PC and you can't wire it, then the WiFi dongles mduell linked to will work fine, and it's less expensive to go that route than just about any other route.
Now you say "I'm also remoting the pc." What do you mean by that? Are you wanting to operate it from a remote location over the network? Or do you have something else in mind. Either way, it's important for us to know what OS you're running on it, and it might be helpful to know what brand and model it is (plus its processor and RAM).

Ok, I have it. Any of the inexpensive USB WiFi dongles on the Newegg page mduell linked to will do the job. Choose whichever one you like; they are all pretty much functionally identical, but I'd stay away from the "108Mbps" and other "speeed enhanced" versions-that's proprietary stuff and not something you'll need. In this case, inexpensive is a Good Thing.
I hope this was helpful.

Go to System Prefrences > Sharing and select the Internet tab. Then select "Share your connection from: Airport" and then "To computers using: Built-in ethernet". Click start. If you have the firewall running, you'll also need to check "Personal Web Sharing" in the Services tab.
This information is in Mac OS X's Help, FYI!

Probably not. Almost all computers come pre-configured to connect to anything providing DHCP addresses, and Internet Connection Sharing does that by default.
