Hey guys. I have a MacBook. I don't think this is a problem with my computer but I wanted to check first before I drag the IT guy from my school down to my dorm to check out my socket. Randomly, my internet will cut out for 10/15 minutes at a time. It would seem to be the schools fault and not mine BUT there are a couple of weird things that could indicate it is a problem w. my comp.

1) When the internet doesn't load, Safari does not give a "You are not connected to the internet" page. It just won't load the page, a blank white screen. This will go on forever, it never brings up the You are not connected page.

2) When the internet does not load, I go to System Preferences and it says I am connected to the internet and that everything is okay, and gives me an IP address and everything.

3) No one else in my dorm has had issues like this.

Any suggestions? Things I can do? Thanks

-Phil

Couple of questions:
When you say "socket" I take it you are connecting via cable?
Does anyone else have trouble if they use that connection?
Does your Mac have the same trouble on another connection?

If you're connecting through an ethernet cable, make tripple-sure it's a good cable; try others through your dorm room's socket to see if it still happens. If not, you've found your problem and it's your cable. If it still gives you problems, it's 99% sure that it's your room's ethernet outlet.

And if the school's IT folks are worth their salt, they'll ask if you've tried it with different ethernet cables (also known as "patch cords") before you get past "I'm having problems with the network outlet in my room." so check it with a new cable or one you borrow from the person next door before you go any further.
