The internet i have access to at my school has proxies blocking the use of clients such as bit torrent clients, i like to download various [legal mind you] things and i was wondering if there is any such way to be able to run a client such as Transmission, i tried changing the proxies but there is no where to change these options (much like there is on iChat or Safari). Any possible solutions? Thanks!

You could try a VPN tunnel to some other network, but if they don't want you to run BitTorrent on their network, you should probably be considerate and honor their wishes.

Agreed. Don't like the network? Go to another school

My guess is that the ports are blocked up. I think you are boned.

Hey, it's their network, they can do what they want with it. Schools often block any number of ports simply because they don't like those nasty letters from the RIAA, MPAA, and other "piracy police" lawyers. You could ask them to open ports for you, but I doubt they'll be particularly supportive. Really sorry about this, but that's the way it is.

Sometimes telling soemone that something is not feasible is help. It stops you from wasting a lot of time trying to search for answers that don't exist.
