Can anyone recommend what wireless service I should use while traveling in Northern Ireland?
I'll be staying in a town called Enniskillen and when I did a search for their wifi hot spots I came up with a few with the network there as BT Openzone.

What do others do/use while traveling overseas? Should I sign up for something like T-Mobile while here in the US before leaving in the hopes they have international service?

Does getting online wirelessly work the same outside of the US as in, where you go to a place and log on to the wireless service that is listed under the airport logo in the menu bar? Be it free or subscription I'd to be able to work from overseas and get online without any hitches.

Just trying to be prepared. Thanks in advance.

This site lists some options for wireless connections in Enniskillen:

http://www.jiwire.com/browse-hotspot...en-3451821.htm

It looks like a number of them accept Boingo:

http://www.boingo.com/services.html

I have not used Boingo, so I can't give you any personal advice about it. But they are one of the large aggregators of WiFi service providers.

You would sign up before you go and you would connect to the wireless network using the Airport menu as usual. Then you would launch a web browser to log-in. There are detailed instructions on their web page (which you should read before you go). (There is also optional proprietary software to log-in which is apparently not compatible with intel macs.)

Enjoy

Hey there,

Thanks for helping out. Sounds like it's just the regular drill like here in the States.
Go to a cafe, click on the Airport icon and click on the network that shows up.
Then, as you say, go to the webpage and sign on and pay.

Guess I won't need the optional proprietary software--even though I'm not an intel mac user yet-but that's another discussion.

So, I'm packing the old ibook. Now, do I need a travel adapter?

Cheers,

Read the fine print on your power supply, but most (if not all) Apples power supplies are dual voltage (100-240 volts). If thats the case with yours, all you need is the right shaped plug. With Apples newer power supplies, you can slip off one shaped plug and slip on the one you need. The Apple Store will have those. Or you can go to Radioshack or many luggage stores and buy a generic set of adapters to change the shape of the plug from U.S. standard to the one you need.

The Apple Store (U.S.)
That link didnt work, however the "Kensington Travel Plug Adapter with USB Charger" at the Apple store has some good reviews. Perhaps someone here has used it and can share their experience with it.
