I've never set up a network before, so this is probably a stupid question....but, if I have two computers using the same wifi connection, can I access documents and other things from the remote computer?
I'm just lazy and if I don't have to transfer everything via disk, then I won't.
thanks!

OS X supports Windows file sharing. Turn on file sharing on either computer and then mount the share on the other computer. There are tutorials online.

OK, here you go:
On your Mac OS X computer, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sharing
Click the checkbox to enable WIndows Sharing
Just under the Accounts... button is a description on how to access the Mac from Windoze (i.e. Windows users can access your computer at \\192.168.x.x\youraccountname)
Open Exporer and type in the address, i.e. \\192.168.x.x\youraccountname

I do this all of the time. I pretty frequently start an ad hoc network to transfer files. It saves alot on discs. It ain't the easiest thing in the world, but it works.

it's painfully slow in my experience....i'd much rather use a crossover ethernet cable or a firewire connection (either target disc mode or tcp/ip over firewire)
