have you configured the pc's 2nd ethernet port to share its net connection via that port?
does the base station have an ethernet port for your pc? (I'm thinking maybe hook up the base station to your cable modem, then connect pc and laptop.)

If your wireless base station doesnt have a LAN port, you would probably do better to get a router (cable modem to router then one wired connection to PC and one to wireless router) or to just get a wireless base station that does have a LAN port. (the latter would simplify setup)
To do what you want to do, your PC would have to have the functionality to share the internet connection (acting as a router). I'm not sure many PCs can do that.

With two e-net ports and xp pro, a pc can do it. Maybe windows 2000 can do it...not sure)

You should be able to do this with Windows all the way back to Win 98SE. But you don't WANT to.
You say the PC doesn't "see" the base station. How are you connecting it that it should? Are you doing anything like renewing the PC's DHCP lease to make sure that it CAN see the base station? I have a feeling that you're going about this the harder than necessary way.

It would be better to connect the modem to the ABS. Then plug the PC into the ABS. Then connect the laptop wirelessly to the ABS. That is easier and still acheives connectivity to all machines. It also requires one less NIC and cable.
