I'm looking to free an aging, but still perfectly functioning G4 400 from the constraints of its ethernet cables, but still keep it on the wireless network. To clarify, I now have my G4 dual 867 connected via ethernet cables to a D-Link DI-624 wireless router. A PC is connected wirelessly to the network and a MBP C2D will soon be joining the PC wirelessly. The G4 400 is presently wired to the D-Link router with an ethernet cable. What do I need to purchase/use/install in order to free the G4 400 from it's wired bonds and move it to another part of the house? Any compatible USB adapters? Or would that be too slow (mostly just sharing a cable internet connection over the network) since it's just USB 1.1? Network cards? Open to any and all suggestions; the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance.

I'd get an 802.11b adapter and an 802.11g adapter. I would plug the g adapter to a computer that is on all of the time, and turn on internet connection sharing. Then I would plug the b adapter into the old USB 1.1 machine.

USB 1.1 is limited to 12Mbps, so and 802.11g adapter operating at 54Mbps would be bottlenecked by the inteface. But they are so cheap, you may want to get g just for the range.

There are other ways to do this, but this is probably the cheapest, aside from wired.

I've had an early version of this Belkin PCI wireless card working without extra drivers in my old G4 Quicksilver.

It worked with every revision of Tiger.

I second the Belkin card. I had a couple of G4's that had to be wireless because of office moves and cabling problems. The cards worked so well that we left them in and people continued to use them for months after the move. Tuoder is right, USB 1 would be agony.

Quick update: I popped in a D-Link DWL-G520 wireless card and downloaded drivers from OWC and was able to get the machine running wirelessly in 5 minutes. Looks like that may be my best bet. Thanks for all your suggestions.
