I just set up the MTU on my server to the double of my ADSL's. The point is to make the LAN section faster (got GigE), without fragmenting like crazy on the ADSL.

Can I expect my Macs to discover this new MTU value and use it, or will I have to set it up manually?

I've got a Intel iMac on GigE, a AirPort Extreme BS with a PowerBook G4 using Wireless.

Run ifconfig in a Terminal window to see current settings.

You can change them with ifconfig, if you don't like them:

Code:
ifconfig en0 mtu 1500
(assuming that en0 is your ethernet port).
