Is it possible, possibly through some 3rd party app, to share the audio output of my power mac over a lan?

Basically, I have my PM plugged into my home stereo, however I often update much of my itunes collection and other this and that's primarily on my iBook. I would love some way to stream audio from my iBook through to my stereo without touching the PM. I know that an airport express will do this but I'd also like to not shell out a hundred + dollars for hardware.

Cheers, any suggestions appreciated.

You could always remote desktop to your PM from the ibook and play it over a network share back to the ibook. Another method would be to ssh into your PM and then run a command-line tool to play from a network share on your iBook.

An Aiport Express would be the easiest way though.

I think that Linksys makes a crazy little device that will accept audio trasmitted to it viz Wi-fi.

Go From PC To Home Stereo With Linksys Wireless-B Music System

This is the first hit I got out of Google. If you looked a little harder than I did, you could probably find a device that does not have the whole stereo. Or maybe you could just hook that into the stereo in question.
