My new C2D won't keep my wireless settings. What's more, under boot camp when I run Windows XP it starts up wirelessly connected fine all the time.

I don't broadcast my wireless name which probably doesn't help, but it's fine on PC. When the Mac is asleep, when I lift the lid to wake it up, the wireless signal is there for enough time to download mail, then it just goes off after 1 minute from sleep. Starting up from scratch I have to type in the wirless network name and the password everytime.

I have a G5 tower and Pismo, Macs for years and don't know if I am missing something or the C2D has a fault?

Cheers.

If you do broadcast network name (SSID), does it work?

Not broadcasting the SSID is not a useful security tactic. All it does is make it infinitesimally harder to find the network name-but the name is sent in every single packet anyway, so you really don't gain anything. Turn broadcast back on and see if it works better.

OR... You could change your card's settings to automatically join a preferred network-yours. That's what Windows does automatically. Windows is kind of wireless promiscuous, which is not a good thing in some circumstances, so the way your AirPort card works is indeed a better way.

And note that there is a WHOLE FORUM just for networking questions of all kinds. I'll move this there because that's where it belongs. Please be more careful the next time you start a thread.

Sorry... I thought this was a particular trait of just the MacBook Pro, I have searched the net and a lot of problems with wireless on MacBook pros come up, that's why I put it in that forum.

Thanks for the help. I will turn broadcasting back on and see if it helps.

If your question is about the MB waking from sleep, lost and confused about what wireless to connect to, try deleting your existing wireless Locations: System Preferences -> Network -> Locations
Make a new one. My laptop and desktop started acting up after 10.4.8. So it is not related specifically to MB Pros.

I have turned broadcasting back on, deleted locations, started again and it's fine.

Thanks all for your help :-)
