My original configuration was an Earthlink DSL modem connected to an Airport Snow connected to an ethernet hub connected to a Mac Mini and wirelessly to a TiBook 667. I successfully connected via Comcast internet connection to a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem to the TiBook 667 using ethernet. When I connect the cable modem to the WAN port of the Airport Snow, I get no internet with ethernet via hub connected to LAN port of the Airport Snow or wirelessly on the TiBook 667. I tried a soft reset of the Airport Snow and power cycling but ended up with negative results. I turned off the cable modem, Airport, and my computer off for 2 hours, turned on the cable modem, 30 min. later turned on the Airport, 10 min. later turned on the TiBook, but still no internet signal. The DSL configuration continues to work but the cable modem is problematic. Can anyone please help me connect with the cable modem and Airport?

Thanks,
Rainier

This link looks like it will help.

How to Configure your Snow Apple Base Station with Version 4.0.1 of the Apple Airport Admin Utility

My guess is that in the internet tab of Airport admin utility you still have the Snow set to access using PPoE rather than ethernet and DHCP

Good luck

I actually have Airport admin utility set for ethernet DHCP, not PPPoE. I think I have Version 4.0.9 of the Apple Airport Admin Utility. Thanks for the advice. I'm still having no luck with my base station assigning an IP address of 169.xxx.xx.xxx after a soft reset. I was told that Comcast IP addresses should begin with 67.x.x.x or 24.x.x.x. How can I make the Airport assign a valid IP address from the cable modem?

I have the solutions for your problem but first you should check your firewall to either turn it off or accept the needed ports.

Now this is what you have to do. You have change your settings to DHCP with manual address. Then you have to convert your IP to a local one by changing the IP to 192.169.1.(XXX- a number of your choice from 2 to 255)

I hope this helps

Remember that Comcast sets the external ip address of your base station, the addresses that your computers see are the LAN addresses assigned by the base station, which for Airport are usually in the 10.0.1.x format.

First thing I would do is double check everything, especially the simple and therefore easily overlooked: Do you have the ethernet cable between modem and base station in the WAN port and not the LAN port? Is the ethernet cable good? For setup simplification, turn off your firewall if any and remove your ethernet hub.

Get the most recent Airport admin utility from Apple. Go through the setup guide once more and be sure all of the settings on the Airport are correct. (your setting of ethernet and DHCP are correct--you do not want a manual address)

Be sure your computers are also set correctly in Network prefs for using DHCP and that the PPoE is unchecked in the PPoE tab.

Once you are sure that everything is correct, turn off cable modem, base station and computers. Powerup cable modem first--wait 10 minutes. Then powerup base station--wait 10 minutes more. Then powerup computers.

If all of that still doesnt work, I think its time to do a hard reset. The following Apple documents explain how. It's a bit complicated, so read it all through first. If you are not comfortable to do it yourself, you might find the Genius bar in your local Apple store willing to do it for you.

Good luck
