Alright, so I just got Connect360, but I'm having some connection problems. I'm connecting the 360 directly to my Mac through the Ethernet cable that came with the Xbox.
The F.A.Q. says that you can't use a cross-over cable and have to use a router or switch of some kind.
It's hard to put to words how dumb I think I sound, but are Ethernet cables and crossover cables the same thing, and if not can anyone help me figure out how to get a connection through just the Ethernet?
When I test the media connection on the 360 it says the Network Adapter is wired, but the IP address is unable to negotiate with my DHCP server.
This is all foreign to me.
I want to know if I need a switch to fix this or if I'm fine before I go out and buy one for $20.

Try going to the Internet tab of the Sharing preferences (in the System Preferences) and messing around with sharing your internet connection over ethernet.
However, I'm not sure if I'm understanding the situation entirely. Good luck though, hope that helps.

A standard ethernet cable (like the one that came with your 360) is NOT the same thing as a crossover cable. A crossover cable swaps the transmit and receive pairs from one end to the other so you don't need to use some device to connect older network card-equipped computers. Most current Macs have autosensing cards anyway, so crossover cables are not required at all.
Now, as slpdLoad has mentioned, your Sharing preferences are probably the root of your problem. You basically tell your Mac "I want to share the connection coming in here through the connection going out there. I assume your Mac is connecting to the Internet through AirPort, right? While this will probably be less than ideal, it should work. Tell Sharing you want to share what comes in through AirPort with what goes out through ethernet and it should work.
But I think you should get an inexpensive router for this particular application anyway. It localizes the particular jobs you're interested in getting done, and that makes setup and troubleshooting (which EVERYBODY does at some point) much easier.

Thanks for the replies but it worked itself out, haha.
I was trying to stream content from the Mac to the 360 not share the internet connection.
I'm on dial-up sadly, too far out of town for high-speed, though I'm probably just gonna cave and get satellite high-speed, it's the only alternative.
But, I was playing MotoGP and I heard a beep from my computer and checked it to find that it had found a connection with the 360. I opened the music player on the 360 to find all 6746 songs from my iTunes folder organized by artist, album, genre, etc.
I'm a pretty happy camper and love my Mac just a wee bit more.
Apple + Microsoft = Joy. Hehe.

<silently>Beaumont has high speed Internet in town?</silently> (My wife grew up in Port Arthur...)
I guess it just took a while for the boxes to figure each other out... I'm glad they did and you have your media where you want it.

Hi I also have my xbox 360 directly connected to my emac using an ethernet cable, running os 10.4.8, connected to the internet through built in wi-fi and cannot get connect360 to recognize my xbox and vice versa. I can connect to Xbox live because I manually configured my 360's IP and DNS settings, turned sharing on etc. Does anyone know anything about this? I have my firewall on but the ports open that Connect360 recommends. I'm stumped, I wish my machine would just beep like johnny's but hasn't happened yet.
