I need some help please. i have been using Linksys wrt54g router with mac g4 desktop and a pwoerbook for over a year with no problems...i had some network issues in the past and always accessed controls via 192.168.1.1. I was only able to access the controls through the powerbook on the network and for some reason could not on the desktop which is running osx 10.4.8. Now my laptop wont access the control to liksys.....now the only thing i did do was upgrad the laptop from 10.3.5 to 10.4.8.

Does anyone know how to fix this access problem.....because as we all know linksys doesnt support the mac. I have tried using explorer in system 9 with no luck...safari, firefox and explorer dont work at all either....reset, powered down all thats been done with no luck. Any help is appreciated.

Are you trying to just view the configuration pages or make changes? Changes usually don't work if you connect via wireless-which is pretty much a good thing. Also, is your Java up to date? That can cause a big problem because a lot of the controls Linksys uses are Java based.

"linksys doesn't support the mac" is just bunk. They do not provide utilities specifically for Macs, and they don't tell you how to configure your Mac over the phone. That's not the same thing as "not supporting Macs." It's more like "we can only afford one group of programmers and only one troubleshooting script, so we went with the biggest market share."

I am trying to access the set up page and it wont let me in wireless and it wont let me in on my ethernet connected desktop. I am running 10.4.8 how do i update java and how do i figure out which is the right version. As for the support coment I was just repeating what there tech support guy told me...once they found out I was running osx they were not interested in helping......so I am again turing to my mac community for help.

I also had problems when I upgraded to 10.4.8. They went away once I flashed the router with a different version firmware . For more details, check out this thread.

PS - I bet you could access the router with a PC. At least this would allow you to flash the router if you decide to do so...

can anyone tell me the procedure of flashing the router. i am going to try and reboot to an earlier osx 10.3 and try to get to the set up page...does anyone have a .bin file for 1.50.8 firmware. From reading the thread that IsaacW sent 1.50.8 is the more stable firmware. I guess first things first and its trying to access the router via explorer first with an older system software. I kind find the old firmware update anywhere. Thanks everyone to date for your help.

The router should have a "firmware upgrade" button somewhere in its configuration pages. You click that, navigate to where the .bin file you want to use is stored on your computer, select that, and click "ok." (That's the basic process-details are different in different firmware versions but it works basically the same way.)

SendSpace | The Best Free File Sharing Service is where I downloaded an earlier version of the firmware...just so everyone else can access it if they need it. I am going home after work tonight to try it out. I still have to install and earlier OSX to access the admin panel for the router....I still dont have the full instructions on how to install the new firmware so if anyone can help it would be appreciated.
