I have spent about 5 hours total scouring the Internet, forums, etc for an answer to this problem but cannot seem to find any help! Let's see if MacNN can point me in the right direction!
Mission: To mount a shared Volume from my Mac on my Windows XP computer.
I can ping the two computers, I can even mount via SMB a Window shared drive on the Mac. But whenever I attempt any kind of mounting of a Mac share I get "The network path \\192.168.1.13\username could not be found."
I have tried sharepoints, to no avail. (which I can view my shares on my Xbox media center from consequently enough...)
So I surmised that the problem lied with the way SMBD was set up on my Mac. I log in to my terminal and sudo ps ax | grep smb with nothing running. Windows Sharing has been checked on and off repeatedly in the preference pane and my user account is added to the list.
It seems as if the windows computer cannot resolve the IP address of the Mac for some reason or reach it. I have tried the Hostname of the computer, the Netbios name (from smb.conf) and still no result. However I can add it to my network places via
ftp://192.168.1.13. Just not as a mounted drive.
Please point me in the right direction to where my problem is! I have deleted all my sharepoints shares, and stripped it all to just start getting a user share mounted, then I'll go from there and get the Volume. I just want the Windows XP machine to at least see the Mac! Once that happens I can take it from there!
