I am heading to my inlaws vacation house for new years. He has DSL with a wireless DSL router. Problem is, the wireless has security on it and I don't know what the password is, and my inlaws ar abroad. Question, if I then connect and airport extreme directly to that rotuer, can I then get on wirelessly via the airport extreme?

Can the aiprort extreme connect to any wirelss router via a ethernet cable and then provide me with a wireless connection?

If you connect YOUR AirPort Extreme to the router, you will be able to connect TO IT without any problems (assuming your Extreme isn't on the same channel as the existing wireless; you'll have to play with it a bit).

The security is in the wireless device, so plugging another wireless device into it will give you a completely separate wireless network.

This is a very smart way to get around not having Mom & Dad's password. But make sure you let 'em know about it when you can. Maybe they'll just give you the password the next time you visit.

Thanks GH!!!

Explain what you mean about the channel?

Also, can the airport express stream wireless? And is it easy to do wireless printing?

Wireless networks run on a set of channels (1 to 11 in the US, up to 14 in Japan). If your AirPort Express is set for the same channel as the wireless router you're plugging into, there WILL be interference and neither network will work. Fortunately most devices come set to channel 6 or 7 by default, so if you set your AX to channel 1 or 11 that should make it work just fine. This is done through the AirPort Admin Utility, by the way.

Wireless printing is a bit of an issue, especially with USB printers. However, if your printer has the appropriate drivers (as in drivers that take into account networking the printer), it should work fine.
